With a history of diabetes for over 8 years, this 53 year old fish vendor was able to earn well and support his family until the dreadful Tsunami took away his livelihood. His business being very badly hit, made him very depressed and he failed to take his medications regularly. His kidneys got affected and he was put on dialysis in a hospital where he could not afford the cost. He came to TANKER, and with regular dialysis at an affordable cost, his health is improving. He is now able to earn Rs 3,000 per month. His son also helps him.
Mrs.Lakshmiammal,
56 years old is currently taking up dialysis at our Unit with the help given by her youngest son who is unmarried and the only earning member in the family. Her husband was employed as a driver, but has left the job due to personal reasons. As the financial burden was unbearable, they also sold their land and are managing with the little money they are left with. He is working as a salesman in a shop and the income he generates is not enough to run the family. The subsidized dialysis provided at TANKER is like a blessing in disguise as it becomes a struggle every month for her to run the household expenses. At present she is taking regular dialysis at TANKER and is able to lead a healthy life.
Mr.Ayyarappan
is a retired V.A.O (Village Administrative Officer) pensioner who gets about Rs.2500/- per month. He has got 3 sons and 4 daughters. With the little savings he had, he managed to bear the wedding expenses of his 2 sons and 1 daughter. After he was struck with this unfortunate news that he was diagnosed with kidney failure it became difficult for him to save and eventually it became a financial burden. At present his unmarried son and 2 daughters stay with him and look after him. As there is no other source of income for him, each day is becoming a struggle to live life. With great difficulty he has to manage his house expenses with the little income that comes in every month and also make sure he takes regular dialysis. The subsidized dialysis provided at our unit ahs been a little relief for him in terms of his financial status.
Mrs. K. Latha
is 40 years old and she was worked as a cook in a residence. She is married to Kannan, 56 years old, no current occupation. She has one son and 3 daughters. Her son is 24 and he collects cell phone bills, earning Rs.2000 a month. Her first daughter is 25 and she does data entry for Rs.1200 a month. Her two last daughters are 19 and 18 and are both studying in 10th Std. Mrs. Latha’s kidney failure was diagnosed one half year and a half ago by Dr. Vijaykumar. Dr. Georgi Abraham now treats her. She already approached for fistula surgery and Tanker helped her to get it done at MMM, but it didn’t work so she needs another fistula.
Mr.Balaji
is married and has a son aged 3 ½ yrs. Living with his parents. His father is retired from TVS and gets permission. Mr.Balaji was working for Kirloskur as Asst.Administrator but now he is not employed. His wife is working in a Pvt Company as commercial officer. Mr.Balaji underwent renal transplant at MMM in June 2006. in Dec 2006, kidney was rejected and he is at present taking up dialysis from Jan 2007. he lost his job because he had undergone transplantation.
